My name is Grace Cheifetz, and I founded the Diaper Brigade in August of 2021. Recently, Ellie Cheifetz and Isabella Olita, both tenth graders, joined my team. Together, our mission is to collect diapers from within the community - through donations from families that have a surplus or through donations - and provide them to families in need. Lack of access to clean diapers has been shown to potentially contribute to child abuse and the availability of clean diapers can be a barrier to work. We want to do our part to help lessen this need in the community.
Our focus is to help families in our community that cannot afford diapers, which are extremely expensive. A full day of clean diapers is required at child care facilities and struggling families often have to prioritize other basic needs over diapers. We serve families both inside our community as well as surrounding communities. We hope to alleviate the need for families so money can go towards other basic necessities.
We are teenagers that partner with faith-based organizations, schools, social networks, and other community organizations to help amplify our message to support our cause. As we receive donations, we distribute them to families and organizations that support with under-served communities. We have partnered with the Mitzvah Circle as well as multiple collaborations with The Food Pantry of Camden County.
Thanks to the support from local businesses, day cares, and religious centers, the Diaper Brigade has managed to donate about 60,000 diapers to those in need. Help us to help others!
